Choosing to Take a Break
For some struggling learners or very young students, you may decide to take a short break to reinforce and practice the material from the previous level. However, taking a break between Foundations levels is not required. If you find your student needs a short break between levels, consider the following:
- Spend time reading books aloud with your student. Select words with known phonograms and have them read those words to you.
- Have your student re-read the Foundations Readers from the previous level.
- Continue playing their favorite phonogram, spelling, high-frequency words, and handwriting games.
- When beginning the next Foundations level, consider the tips in our article Starting Back Into Foundations After a Break.
If your student is ready to learn more, consider moving to the next level, adjusting the pace to what works for you and your student. See our article Slow Down the Pace of Foundations.
