Essentials Student Courses
The Essentials Student Courses have been developed for older students (8 years through adult) so they can complete the curriculum more independently than with the printed material. See Teacher’s Role in Essentials Student Courses.
Do I need to purchase anything additional for the Essentials Student Courses?
No, each Essentials Student Course is a stand-alone course. All lessons previously taught in the teacher’s guide are now presented through video. All activities that were previously practiced through the student workbook and teacher’s guide are now practiced with online interactive activities. Customers may choose to purchase additional materials such as a Spelling Journal, but they are not required.
What spelling levels are included in Essentials Student Courses?
Spelling levels A and B are included in the courses. Spelling level C is not included in Essentials Student Courses. Please give the placement test using the PDF or use the online version to determine spelling level before purchasing.
Can more than one student use the Essentials Student Courses?
Yes, students can watch the videos together and take turns completing the online activities, or courses can be purchased individually for each student. See Multiple Students on One eLearning Account
How will I know how my student is doing?
Teachers will give students an assessment (using a PDF in the course) for part 5 of every unit. At this point, data from the online activities are not recorded, so teachers will need to monitor progress. This can be done by periodically checking in, asking students to screenshot the completion page on activities, or monitoring how students apply what they are learning. See Independent Learning with Essentials Student Courses.
Can I use Essentials Reader or Rhythm of Handwriting with the student course?
Yes, these videos will show you how.
Can I use the printed materials with the student course?
Yes, even though the Essentials Student Courses are stand-alone courses, they are correlated to the lessons in the printed curriculum. The printed material can be used as review, reteaching, extension, or an alternative way to teach the information. See Comparing Essentials Student Course with the Printed Curriculum
