The instruction in Foundations is developmentally appropriate for children ages 4-7. This allows educators flexibility when planning for instruction based on the needs of their students. Foundations is appropriate for kindergarten and first grade. Other educators choose to use Foundations for kindergarten, first, and second grade. Due to its playful nature, many educators have found that Foundations is a successful option for prekindergarten.
Grade Level Pacing
Foundations A and B is often scheduled for kindergarten and Foundations C and D for first grade. Others choose to move at a different pace and spread Foundations A-C over kindergarten and first grade and teach D in second grade. It is essential to plan your instruction around the needs of your child or class.
Foundations fulfills and exceeds the Common Core Standards for language arts for kindergarten and first grade. Additionally, Foundations meets all reading and language standards for second grade and most of the second grade writing standards.
